Advancing in Oil:
Essential Skills for Imaginative Realism
A course with 66 video lessons and 8 hours of content designed to elevate your painting beyond the basics and bring your imagination to life.
Your Next Chapter in Oil Begins Here!
đź’ Â Maybe you feel stuck relying purely on references, unsure how to push past direct copy work into original creation.
đź’ Â Maybe you struggle to make the complex worlds in your mind look solid, believable, and three-dimensional on canvas.
💠 Maybe you’ve told yourself: "My ideas are great, but my technical skills just aren't strong enough to bring them to life."
But here’s the truth: bringing your imagination to life is a repeatable process... not a lucky guess!
What elevates a painting from simple rendering to powerful imaginative realism is structured light, deliberate narrative design, and purposeful technique, built step by step.
You don’t need to wait for inspiration or hope for a happy accident. You need a clear bridge that connects your foundational skills directly to your creative vision.
In this course, I’ll guide you beyond the basics, taking you through advanced composition, light, and narrative design so you can paint your own imaginative worlds with absolute confidence.
Let’s take your work to the next level. Your vision deserves to be painted!
Hey, I’m Ryan!
My name is Ryan Pancoast and I’m an award-winning illustrator and artist. During my 15 year career, I have created over 200 oil paintings for the collectible card game Magic: the Gathering, designing and illustrating many of Magic’s most popular characters. Additionally, I have worked with major brands such as Blizzard Entertainment, Nickelodeon, and Marvel.
I take pride in taking imaginary lands and characters and making them believable, creating paintings that help transport fans to new worlds.
In this course, I’ll guide you through the foundations of representational painting, from simple forms and observation to portraiture and imaginative realism, using the same process I rely on in my own studio.
